Dr Hesam Hassan Nejad
Dr Hesam Hassan Nejad (hesamh@nsric.ca) is the Junior Faculty in the area of Petroleum Engineering at Engineering Unit of OE Division, NSRIC. He is also the Researcher at RID Division, NSRIC.
Dr Nejad is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Digitrack Systems Inc. working on the development of an online platform and an application to facilitate the ‘recall process’ for food and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries. Dr. Nejad has a chemical engineering background and possesses a Ph.D. in engineering from the Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research expertise is two-fold: (i) application of remediation and bioremediation processes (biological treatment and use of biochemical processes) on waste management of upstream sector of oil and gas industries i.e. drilling waste, and (ii) application of hydrometallurgical processes to treat generated industrial waste including, but are not limited to, e-waste, spent batteries, spent auto-catalysts, spent hydroprocessing catalysts, and acid mine drainage (AMD). The aim of Dr. Nejad’s research is to isolate and remove hazardous components of waste such as total petroleum hydrocarbons or the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and to recover valuable materials such as gold, platinum, and lithium. His research was supported by industry, NSERC, Mitacs Inc., and MMSB Applied Waste Management Research Fund. He authored more than 30 research articles and published in different journals, and conferences.
