
Dr. Mehmut Memtimin
Dr. Mehmut Memtimin (mehmutm@nsric.ca). Dr. Mehmut Memtimin is the Junior Faculty in the area Geology at the Geology and Geography Unit of OE Division, NSRIC. He holds a PhD degree in Geology from Peking University, and both M.E and B.E degrees in Geology form Xinjiang University. He started his Ph.D. program in 2015 in Peking University in Structural Geology, and worked on multiple international and local research projects and conducted original geological research. His primary research field is petrology, volcanology and tectonics. His major publications since 2019 include Carboniferous arc-related volcanism in SW Bogda Mountain, Northwest China, and its implications for regional tectonics, Facies architecture, eruption history and emplacement mechanism of subaqueous volcanism in Bogda Mountain, Facies architecture of a subaqueous volcano–sedimentary succession on Bogda Mountains, NW China–Evidence of extension in Late Carboniferous. Other publications as first author and co-author cover topics such as sea incursion and regression, paleoclimate change in Central Asia caused by the uplift of Himalayas, etc. He conducted original research, collected and processed geological, geochemical and geochronological data in various labs in Peking University, Saint Mary’s University, Dalhousie University. He is experienced in data visualization programs such as Arc GIS, AI, Coral Drawer, Microsoft Suit, and lab facilities such as SEM, EBSD, EMP, LA-ICP-MS, Optical Microscopy.Â

He has been honored with multiple awards for his achievements in research and publications. The most recent awards include Graham Williams Award by Atlantic Geoscience Society in 2019, China Scholarship Council Award (CSC) in 2018, Peking University Student Travel Grant for AGU Presentation in 2017, Doctoral Research Award from Peking University in 2015, National Award of Motivation (Xinjiang University). He has been regarded as one of the best researchers and team players by his supervisor and co-workers at Peking University and Saint Mary’s University.Â
