Dr. Mohammad Najmul Ehsan Fatmi
Dr. Mohammad Najmul Ehsan Fatmi (fatmim@nsric.ca) is the Associate Vice-President of Commerce and Management Unit. He is also the Distinguished Faculty in Economics at Commerce and Management Unit of OE Division, NSRIC. Professor Fatmi comes with a wealth of experience and insights in fields that span over four decades and they go beyond his teachings to cover areas like socio-economic research, consultancy and advisory assignments with government bodies, national and international agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). His exposure to the world of applied micro- and macro-economic policies relating to agricultural development, food policy analysis, industrial and trade policies, and community development dynamics involving the working of NGOs offered him precious and invaluable insights into how these diverse groups of stakeholders lay claim to the benefits and spinoffs from the development process, top-down or bottom-up. Prof. Fatmi used his versatile experience fully to his singular passion – teaching where he was able to provide linkages between what he taught theoretically and what he gained as practical wisdom from his varied experience both as professional economist and as development practitioner. His teaching philosophy is one of imparting a simple but intuitive understanding of every theoretical concept and phrases that he conveyed to his students together with the conventional tools of application and analysis so that they would be better equipped to relate what they learned to real world situations.
