
Dr. Roopa Devasya
Dr. Roopa Devasya (roopad@nsric.ca) is the Junior Faculty in area of Food Engineering at Engineering Unit of OE Division, NSRIC. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, with a specialization in the environmental application of microalgae for wastewater remediation and valorization. She also received MSc. degree in Dairy microbiology from the University of Agricultural science Bangalore, India. Following her Ph.D., Dr. Devasya was a Post-doctoral fellow at Western University.Â
Dr. Devasya has more than 15 years of industrial R&D experience and expert in food and bioprocessing, fermentation process, product development, food safety, and regulation. Dr. Devasya was R&D Technical Project manager at Parmalat Canada Inc. managed multiple projects in one of the large dairy industries of Canada. Her expert ranges from process optimization, innovative product development for the continuous improvements of the dairy manufacturing process. Dr. Devasya expertise in fermentation technology of lactic acid bacteria and biotechnological application systems of microalgae for environmental remediation process and extraction of biochemicals. Dr. Devasya authored 2 publications in peer-reviewed journals and in the process of one patent submission.Â

She has presented her research work at both national and international conferences. She is currently working on bioeconomy projects focused on bio-composite development using microalgal biomass to replace plastics.
