Dr. Subhasis Ghosh
Dr. Subhasis Ghosh (email@example.com) is the Head of Department in area of Physics at Science Unit. He is also the Distinguished Faculty in area of Physics at Science (SCI) Unit of OE Division, NSRIC. Dr. Subhasis Ghosh is a senior professor of physics in School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi where he joined as Assistant Professor in 1995. He has obtained B.Sc. (Hons in Physics) and M.Sc. (Physics) from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and University of Calcutta, Kolkata, respectively and received Ph.D. in Physics from Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore. After finishing doctoral work, he joined Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, as research associate. He is also visiting faculty in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. Broadly, his research activities are in the domain of development of fundamental understanding of transport, magnetic and optical properties of different technologically important inorganic and organic semiconducting and strongly correlated magnetic materials in their bulk-phase as well as nano-phase and extend them to applied areas of research for the development of novel devices. In particular, present research interests are (1) Skyrmions in magnetic materials, (2) Phase transition and critical phenomena, (3) Physics of strange metal in strongly correlated systems, (4) Graphene and black phosphorus, (5) Dilute magnetic semiconductors and (6) Physics and Technology at nanoscale. He has published more than 150 papers in reputed research journals and supervised 16 PhDs. Presently, he has 10 PhD students and two postdoctoral fellows in his research group.
Prof. Ghosh has wide administrative experiences. He has been Dean of School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. In addition to giving administrative and academic leadership to School he has facilitated strategic planning in preparation for new programs in chemistry and mathematics in addition to physics by recruiting new faculty and building necessary infrastructure. He has been also Director of Advanced Instrumentation Research Facility (AIRF) of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. AIRF is dedicated in providing state of art research facility in the areas of physical sciences, life sciences and engineering. He has professionally managed AIRF to facilitate more than 5000 users coming from different parts of India and neighboring countries (Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka ) and addition of several state of art facilities and increase of revenue by more than double than previous years.
In more than 26 years of professional career, Prof. Ghosh has a diversified and very rich record of teaching which is his passion. He simply love teaching courses on (1) Solid State Physics, (2) Quantum Mechanics, (3) Classical Mechanics, (4) Advanced solid state physics, (5) Nanophysics and Nanotechnology, (6) Statistical mechanics, (7) Physics of Semiconductor Devices and (8) Phase transition or any other courses in Physics, Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering at undergraduate/graduate/ postgraduate level.
