
Mr. Chowdhury Qamrul Ahsan
Mr. Chowdhury Qamrul Ahsan (qamrula@nsric.ca) is the Professor of Practice in the area of Business Administration at Commerce and Management Unit of OE Division, NSRIC. He is also the retired decorated Police Officer with a good standing and proven expertise in all the areas of investigation, governance, law and order. Joined the Police department as Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) Cadre in the year 1974 and did rise through the ranks by virtue of his grit, determination and hard-work with a never-dying spirit of nationalism.Â
Highly educated with versatile personality, he has completed his Post Graduate in Law and Masters of Arts in Political Science from Dhaka University besides being an MBA Graduate. He has been assigned with special responsibilities like Police Liaison Officer at UN Mission in Namibia in 1989 and again as Contingent Commander at UN Mission in Bosnia & Harzegovina during 1999-2000. He was promoted as Superintendent of Police in 1990 with his first posting at Tangail district and since then there hasn’t been looking back. He was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2003 and posted as Police Commissioner, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police. He has contributed immensely by way of his active participation in the community to improve and encourage citizen’s behavior and participation in development projects. He was enshrined with the responsibility of heading the Police Academy during the period 2004-2005. Finally, in January 2006 he was promoted as Additional Inspector General of Police and retired from the position in December 2008. During his illustrious career serving the country he has been bestowed with many Awards like Best Officers’ Cup from Police Academy and has presented many papers in various Seminars and Conferences at the national and international level. He has also served as Regional Chairperson in District 315 A2 Lions Clubs International, Bangladesh and has been recognized for his humanitarian service and contribution to the society.

Starting his second innings, he joined the largest private sector life insurance company in 2009 as Executive Director, Training and was responsible for the in-house Training and Development Institute and then he also assumed the responsibility of Executive Director HR along with his Training responsibility. During his stint he developed the human-resource function and took employee oriented initiatives which have contributed to the growth and sustainability of the company’s performance. Skilled in Customer Service, Coaching, Strategic Planning, Recruiting, and Team Building, he has been an asset to the government as well as private sector.
