Prof. Zubair Kalam is the Division Head and the Vice President (VP) of NSRIC Research, Innovation, and Development (RID) Division. He is also the Distinguished Faculty in Petroleum Engineering (PEE) at the Engineering (ENG) Unit. Dr. Zubair Kalam has solid business and technical achievements of 32+ years at various world class institutions: University of Oxford (UK), BP Research Center (UK), Sultan Qaboos University (Oman), Atomic Energy Authority Technology PLC (UK) and ADNOC Onshore (UAE) as a Discipline Expert in Center of Excellence. ADNOC Onshore achievements included development of Standard Operating Procedures and Working Systems in various Subsurface technical areas (Special Core Analysis, Routine Core Analysis and Reserves Framework), and Benchmarking of Best Practices in SCAL & RCA with Shareholders. He was responsible for USD 80 millions of SCAL and Advanced SCAL (CO2 EOR, transition zone, whole core, and scanning curves) projects, including the introduction and validation of state-of-the-art Digital Rock Physics in carbonates (a global first). Dr. Kalam has over 100 research publications in different peer-reviewed journals, international conferences, and technical workshops and is privileged to work closely with several industry heavyweights including Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Mansfield.
He was the recipient of SPE Middle
East Regional Technical Award – Formation Evaluation in 2012 and was inducted
in 2013 as the SPE International PetroWiki Moderator in single and multiphase
flow, relative permeability measurements and miscible gas injection processes
in porous media. He is a recognized entrepreneur in the Middle East.
