Course Description:

The discipline " Basis of Design" refers to the subject of giving the basic design knowledge and skills necessary for solving basic design and pipe design problems. The concepts of design, design process, design software, pipe introduction, pipe fitting, flanges, valves, pipe drafting etc. are presented in this basic design and drafting course.

These courses provide step-by-step instructions through the creation of design flow diagrams, and piping drawings. It includes instructions for the proper drawing of symbols for fittings, flanges, valves and mechanical equipment found on various types of piping drawings in addition to introduction to design, engineering design process, literature study, assignment and design project.

Basic design covers the design, engineering design process and a design element overview of pipe system that forms the foundation for the design of pipelines, pump stations, compressor stations, valves, and other facilities that comprise the pipe system.

Pipe drafting and design introduces overview. In the design of an industrial facility, engineers develop process flow sheets, set up project specifications, and design or select equipment. The design drafters use the information supplied by engineers and equipment vendors and apply the knowledge and experience gained in the office and field to design and lay out the facility.

It introduces pipe size, pipe materials, pipe manufacturing and drawing. Pipe is a term used to designate a hollow, tubular body used to transport any commodity possessing flow characteristics such as those found in liquids and gases.

It covers different fittings and drafting. Fittings are fabricated pipe components that are used to perform specific functions throughout the routing of a pipe.

It describes different flanges and drawings. The flange is a ring-shaped device that is used as an alternative to welding or threading various piping system components together.

It also introduces different types of valves and drawings. A valve is a device that controls the flow of a fluid.

Pipe drafting and design explains different types of mechanical equipment and drawings. Mechanical equipment can be used to start, stop, heat, cool, liquefy, purify, distill, refine, vaporize, transfer, store, mix, or separate the commodity flowing through the piping system. It covers codes and specifications guiding for piping facilities to ensure everything from quality construction to worker safety.

This program enables students to practice as a pipe design engineer. Students should know the theoretical and engineering design basis of pipe and its facilities.
